SECTION 8/ HCV PROGRAMThe Housing Choice Voucher Program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.
For this program, eligible persons rent from a private landlord on the open market. The EPHA helps program participants pay the rent to their landlord. To qualify, the household income must be below our income guidelines. Each housing unit, whether it is a house, apartment or mobile home, is inspected for compliance with Housing Quality Standards (HQS). Current funding permits participation of up to 195 households. Landlords are responsible to screen potential tenants for suitability and are permitted to utilize their own lease agreement. There is a Housing Assistance Contract signed between the EPHA and the landlord. To get assistance through the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program, interested persons must complete an application when the wait list CLOSED. |
PBV PROGRAMThe Project Based Voucher Program services Leisure Acres; a senior facility within the community of Tazewell County. This program is for persons 55 and older, whose income is no more than 60% of the area's medium income.
For this program, interested persons must live in an apartment at Leisure Acres Phase 1 complex located in Sunnyland. The tenant is required to pay 30% of their income towards their their own rent and utilities with the EPHA subsidizing the remaining amount. Leisure Acres is an apartment complex of 100 efficiency-size and one-bedroom apartments. To get assistance through the Project-Based Voucher program, interested persons must complete an application when the wait list is open.
